Hooven Philippines Inc. was initially engaged in the manufacture and sale of aluminum jalousies, doors, windows and other aluminum products. Established in October 1954 in a compound in Binondo, Manila, Hooven was the brainchild of Herbert G. Dee Sr., who saw in aluminum an indispensable tool in enabling the Philippines to rise from its post-war ruins. The company was Mr. Dee’s response to the country’s need for an alternative source of raw materials. Aluminum became an important tool in the country’s industrialization program – and Hooven was there to meet its requirements.

Seeing the vital role aluminum played in post war Philippines, Mr. Dee led HOOVEN on a rapid expansion program – acquiring new equipment, upgrading machinery, expanding product lines and service, and continuously training its technical staff.

As business improved and volume of demand increased, the company moved its operations to Mandaluyong, Rizal in February 1961, expanding its manufacturing facilities to include extrusion and anodizing. Then in 1971, it further expanded its operations and moved to its current 4-hectare site in Cainta, Rizal.

Among Hooven’s trailblazing milestones are:

• First ISO 9002 certification for an aluminum manufacturing company in 1998
  
• First to introduce electrolytic colored anodizing (ANOLOK - ALCAN TM) in the Philippines in 1968
  
• First to apply integral coloring (KALCOLOR - KAISER ALUM. TM) Kalcolor anodizing systems in 1972
  
• First to apply fluorocarbon paint coatings (PVDF) in 1990
  
• First to apply wood grain and stone paint coatings (DECORAL) in 2000

Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Herbert S. Dee, Jr., Hooven earned the distinction of being the first and only fully-integrated aluminum manufacturing company that was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Certificate in November 2002. To reinforce Hooven's committment to product and service excellence, Mr. Herbert S. Dee, Jr. launched the Herbert G. Dee, Sr. Center for Continuous Improvement (CCI), which was inaugurated and blessed during the 50th Anniversary celebration last July 15, 2004. The CCI heralds the beginning of a new era for Hooven, inspired by the vision of Mr. Herbert S. Dee, Jr. of the company engaged in never-ending quality improvement efforts.
